Coast cheerleaders ‘give 110 percent’ in Cheersport competition
The Cheersport competition features the best teams from across the southeast.

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - There was no shortage of pep at the Mississippi Coast Convention Center Saturday.

That was where hundreds of teams from across the southeast showed off their best routines for the Cheersport competition.

Cheer Zone Athletics out of Saucier was one of the teams hoping to take home some nice hardware. For the more advanced teams, there was a lot on the line. Cheersport is a qualifier event for U.S. Finals, and a bid event for The Summit Championship hosted at Walt Disney World.

Win or lose, Cheer Zone coaches said they also put a huge focus on life lessons that the girls can use off the mat.

“So the whole reason we compete is to give a 110 percent, and I told the kids no matter what place they place today, as long as they do their best, we’re going to be proud of them and throw a party either way," said Tiffany Alsbury, All Star Prep Director.

The team sport proved to be more than about adding to the trophy case, but an opportunity to build up these young girls.

“We have a word of the month each month, and so like courage and persistence, those kind of words, and the children learn what those mean and they try to live them out each month, and that’s just growing them in their aspects of life,” Alsbury said.

It was an opportunity to grow and a moment to shine that gave the girls plenty to cheer about.
