BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - An online petition is gaining traction to create a Barq’s Museum in Biloxi.

“For 120 years the residents of Biloxi and Mississippi Coast have been unwavering consumers and champions for the now world famous root beer, and yet it is not common knowledge that Barq’s was invented here in Biloxi,” the petition read.

The online petition, titled “Biloxi Needs A Barq’s Museum! Let’s Make it Happen!!," has received 393 signatures at the time of this report. The online goal is 10,000 signatures.

The petition does not name a specific location for the proposed museum, only suggesting to “revitalize the dwindling Vieux Marche.” The city of Biloxi has been working to revitalize the area surrounding Howard Avenue, hoping to create a mixed-use entertainment district.

The Barq Building in downtown Biloxi has already been sold to private developers.
