BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Trees growing in South Mississippi will soon help make the lights come on in parts of Europe. That’s good news for Europeans and good news for Jackson and George counties.
The Enviva company will make wood pellets in George County and ship them out of the Port of Pascagoula to Europe where they will be used by power companies to generate electricity with reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
This is a solid boost in jobs for George and Jackson counties, creating nearly 700 jobs either working at the new plant, in construction or indirectly in the timber and transportation industries. The construction of the new plant and the distribution facility get underway soon.
Our congratulations to the local and state leaders for creating jobs in South Mississippi and for the positive impact on American trade overseas.
