JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Current Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann will run for lieutenant governor in the 2019 general election. Hosemann ended the suspense Wednesday morning, announcing his plans on a statewide radio program.
Pundits expected this announcement so it’s not a big surprise. Current Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves is running for Governor. That opened the door for the two term Secretary of State to add his name to the ballot for the lieutenant governor position.
“I am running because I have seven grandchildren and I want Mississippi to be better,” Hosemann said on the Paul Gallow Show. “When I look back on all the opportunities that were given to me and my family when I came here and the generations that we have been in Mississippi, I just want to make it a little bit better place. I think with the 12 years I’ve had in the Secretary of State and 30 years of business, I think I can help.”
Hosemann has served as the Secretary of State since 2008.
