Renovated Gautier Kmart will be home to new company, new jobs

Tennessee company moving headquarters to Gautier

GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) - A Tennessee-based communications company is on the final stages of relocating its corporate headquarters to Gautier. Part of the operation will include building a state-of-the-art call center that will employ as many as 250 people. With the new jobs come new opportunity for the city.

The old Kmart store doesn’t look like much now, having sat vacant for two decades. After renovation, it will soon look something like the Thousand Trails call center located just up the road in Gautier.

Roy Rogers Communications is serious about the move here. Not only for the business climate, but another type of climate too. Jay Politi is the CEO of parent company Axisnewtech.

“For us, who wouldn’t want to be on the Gulf Coast, for one thing? We don’t deal with snow. We don’t deal with too much bad weather except for now and then. And it allows us to have an uninterrupted operation for the most part,” Politi explained.

The new operation has a domino effect on other businesses.

Many of the new employees may be looking to buy a house soon. Suzanne Martin is a real estate broker.

“I think it’s an awesome opportunity for sellers, investors and homebuyers. So, I think it’s going to be wonderful. They’ll need housing, and we’ll need inventory,” she said.

And when they buy that home, of course, they’ll need to furnish it as well. Lynn Meadows is the owner of such a store.

“The consumer can just shop right here before they go home. They don’t have to go Gulfport, or Mobile or to Biloxi to their shopping, and so, that will be a tremendous potential increase in our business,” Meadows explained.

The company will specialize in one aspect of the call center industry, according to Politi.

“We will service business owners throughout the country with new services for Direct TV as well as all AT&T services,” Politi explained.

Doing that will make workers hungry. That’s where local restaurants come in to fill a need. Luis Mendoza is a restaurant manager.

“I think it’s good for the community that we have new jobs. New jobs means more business for everybody. So, I have a philosophy. If they do good, we do good.”

Take one look around the inside of the building and you know it’s going to take a lot of work to bring it back up to standards. But the company is willing to put in that efforts, time and money.

That’s the word from Politi.

“We expect to invest about $200,000 worth of business in here. There’s going to be a full training center over there. This is all call center here. We’re a technology based business, so we’ve got a lot of IT infrastructure to bring in.”

As well as bringing in new economic well-being for the city.

The company has already begun the hiring process. The jobs will pay an average salary of about $500 a week. To fill out an application, click HERE.
