HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Three Harrison Central High School seniors celebrated some big plans for their futures. Keon Barney, Angelique Peregrina, and Olivia James were each accepted into elite schools, including two Ivy League universities.
Barney will go to the University of Pennsylvania in the fall on a full scholarship to study international business. Peregrina plans to attend Cornell University to major in business management. James was accepted into Hamilton College with plans to major in psychology and neuroscience.
The students thanked their English teacher Mr. Eadie for pushing them to believe in themselves. They had the same advice for other students.
“I think you should just throw yourself out there, because you never know what you’re going to get. If you don’t even know you deserve it then you never know what could happen. Just try,” Peregrina said.
“Just to not feel discouraged, like they can’t do something because they’re missing a certain aspect in the requirements. Just to do the best that they can. Of course, do really good on their essays, and get as much help as they can from their advisors,” James said.
The acceptance rate for each of the schools is less than 25 percent.
