GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A Gulfport man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to shooting another man in 2017.
Marcos Reginald Hosey, 44, admitted in court to shooting 34-year-old Arthur Etheridge on July 6, 2017. Police say they received a call just before 1 a.m. from a friend of Etheridge's, who was driving him to the hospital because of a gunshot wound. The friend told police that Etheridge and Hosey had a dispute at O'Neal Road Apartments.
When police went to the apartment complex, they found a shell casing in the parking lot. Detectives also talked to witnesses at the apartment complex, who gave a description of Hosey to officers. Hosey was located later that morning at an apartment complex off East Pass Road.
Prosecutors said Hosey and his girlfriend at the time had recently broken up and, in the weeks leading up to the shooting, he had made threatening multiple people with a gun over the break-up. Etheridge and Hosey got into an argument, said Chief Assistant District Attorney Crosby Parker, who prosecuted the case. However, Parker did not specify what that argument was over.
After Hosey pleaded guilty, Etheridge’s mother spoke to the court, tell them how the loss of her son had affected her family. Circuit Court Judge Schmidt then sentenced Hosey to the mandatory sentence for first-degree murder, which is life in prison.
