BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -A little bit of Mississippi lagniappe is going all over the world thanks the artwork of a Gulfport High School junior.
This year the Port of Gulfport asked the visual arts students at the high school to design a Christmas card for them. Thirty-eight entries and five semi-finalists later, Meg McDougal’s card entitled “Christmas Eve at the Port” was the winner. Her card and her bio is now being sent out by the Port all over globe.
"I just really love the holidays, and I just love to spread the Christmas cheer to people,” McDougal said. “So, I wanted to create a piece that captured Christmas Eve in Gulfport, and I put Santa in his sleigh and tried to put some lights in the trees because seeing the Christmas lights in Gulfport is one of my favorite things about the holidays."
The semi-finalists and winner had their cards encased, while all the entries were in display at the school, and everyone got recognized by the Port of Gulfport.
