MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - Big changes are coming to Mississippi 63 in Moss Point. Mayor Mario King announced Thursday that five new car dealerships are coming to the River City.
The first dealership to pop up will be Bob Boyte Honda. Boyte was at Thursday’s meeting and said the dealership will be 31,000 square feet and employ 80 to 100 people.
“You know, you’re 30 minutes from everywhere and that’s what I like about Moss Point. Highway 63 has proven to be a pretty successful corridor," he said.
It wasn’t a quick process. Honda’s corporate office in California sent out a pitch for a minority-owned dealer, looking to open another location. Boyte applied, and he won.
“I was really excited about the fact that they wanted a minority-owned dealer, and when Bob chose Moss Point, that’s when we really were excited," King said.
Following Bob Boyte Honda, Estabrook announced two additional locations. King kept quiet on the other two dealerships.
In addition to the jobs generated from Bob Boyte Honda, each of the other four dealerships will also employ anywhere from 80 to 100 people.
King said hundreds of thousands in sales tax revenue will be brought in. Estabrook Toyota generated almost $300,000 in sales tax revenue in the past year. King suspects Bob Boyte Honda will do the same.
“I think the community will see over the next five years the fruits of our labor, but immediate with Bob Boyte starting to build now," King said.
Boyte said bids close on his new Honda dealership at 4 p.m. Friday. After a contractor is selected, he will have a better idea of when construction will begin.
